TW: sexual assault, rape
Hampshire College darling Lale Labuko, who is a founding member of Ethiopian charity Omo Child has been found guilty of sexual assault for at least one person, Riley Delchamps, (who has given me permission to publish this post and would like to talk to anyone else interested in the case), at Hampshire, but he has assaulted many more students and is widely known to be a campus predator. Effective today, the consequences of his actions are that he cannot live on campus but is not banned from campus and can continue to take classes and use facilities.
He was found not guilty of sexual harassment, physically endangering behavior, and threatening and intimidating, which if you know anything about rape, you’d know this is basically impossible.
Hampshire College knows the consequences for their progressive reputation of their highly publicized shining savior being widely known as a rapist. It seems as if Hampshire never learned from the Amherst College rape fiasco in how to appropriately respond to campus rape accusations. This particular student was intimidated by other students and had to drop out of college due to lack of support and campus environment.
As an alumnus of Hampshire College, I am horrified and disappointed by their lack of response to the gravity of this situation. As someone who participated as a witness in this process, I am deeply saddened to see how little my testimony and others’ testimony mattered. I am ashamed that such a seemingly progressive institution still cares more about its publicity than bringing justice to students victimized by a serial rapist.
Please reblog this, please pass on the information, please keep your friends safe, and demand Hampshire College take responsibility for their rapist students on campus.
